It began in 1975 with Don José Luna's handcrafted recipe from the Highlands of Jalisco — carried over the border in apple-soda jugs and shared only among family and friends.
Decades later his grandson Miguel brought it to the San Diego Sockers locker room, where it became the victory ritual. In 2018, Miguel and his coach Phil Salvagio turned it into CaliFino.
